My horrible experience of lower back pain
Today I am writing my own experience of suffering from lower back pain for atleast 2 months. This had been my worst experience from lower back pain that had almost paralysed my entire body.
It was a day when I returned from office and felt a sharp pain on my lower back just above my right buttock. I was feeling the pain when bending, stretching, and lying on the bed with my face on the upper side. On the first day, the pain was moderate and just felt it when I was trying to move my legs while sleeping and trying to get off from the bed. I didn't care about that pain too much and on the next day, went to office by my bike.
While I was riding the bike, I was feeling that sharp pain just above my right buttock, whenever there was ups and downs in the road. For the entire day in the office, I felt the pain when I was trying to get off my office's chair after prolonged sitting. However the intensity of the pain was little higher as compared to the day before. After few hours, my office ended and reached home by my bike. But as soon as I reached home, the lower back pain just became worst. The pain was so sharp that I couldn't even walk. I was completely out of mind to think what to do. My mom suggested me to take a hot bag on my lower back and accordingly I did that. I was sitting on the bed and took the hot bag for atleast 20 minutes. The pain decreased a bit but as soon as I tried to move my body from the bed, the pain was worser than before. The pain was so sharp that I literally thought myself of being a paralysed person at that moment. Without thinking much, I called my nephew over his phone as he is a neurosurgeon by profession, and spoke about the back pain that I was facing. He suggested me to take some medicines related to muscle spasm and muscle relaxant. My mom went to the medicine shop and bought those medicines. I took the medicines and somehow sent to sleep. The pain was so intense that I could not even move my any body parts. However it was may be my self power by which I managed to lie down on my bed, but as soon as I lied down, I was feeling terrible pain on my lower back. I was feeling extreme hopeless at that time as I didn't know what to do. Somehow, I took pillow in between both of my legs and tried to sleep on one side. It took 5-10 minutes to move my body on one side of the bed.
On the next day when I woke up, I felt the lower back pain had considerably decreased. It was due to the medicines the pain had decreased, that I took last night as suggested by my nephew. I called my nephew again over the phone and asked him the reason of this horrible lower back pain. He told me that, the lower back pain was might be due to my prolonged sitting in the office as well as in the home, where, my back portion was not being utilised for several months, as I am an IT professional. He suggested me to take those medicines related to muscle relaxant for few days and to use the hot bag everytime whenever possible. Likewise I took his medicines for few days and realised that the pain had decreased. Though the pain was still there, it had decreased to a little extent. After few days of taking the medicines, I realised that though the lower back pain had decreased, but, it had not gone away fully.
Without thinking much, I approached to my nearby orthopedic clinic and appointed for an orthopaedic doctor. The doctor examined me properly and said similar things which my nephew said earlier. The doctor said that since I always work by sitting on chair for prolonged period of time and very less physical activities are being carried out by me, the lower back pain was one of such problems. He suggested me for an X-ray for the spine and lower back. I did the X-ray and found that I was having paraspinal muscle spasm. He then prescribed me couple of medicines and suggested me to do light regular physical work outs without lifting heavy weights, work outs related to stretching and to walk as much as possible. Likewise, I used to do regular work outs and walk as much as possible. Within 2 weeks, my lower back pain vanished.
One thing I want to say that if you are having similar kind of problem, do not hesitate to reach your local doctor. Also, keep in mind that if the lower back pain reaches towards your legs, please visit you doctor at the earliest.
The problems that I faced are described below:
1. Sharp pain on lower back just above the right buttock.
2. Unable to walk/move my body during extreme pain.
3. Unable to lie down on bed with the lower back touching the bed.
Some tricks that I applied to get rid of the lower back pain atleast for sometime:
1. I kept small pillow in between the legs while sleeping.
2. Applied massage with hot bag whenever possible.
3. Avoided walking on stairs.
4. Avoided prolonged sitting on chair.
5. Carried out light stretching exercises for the lower back.
6. Avoided heavy lifting of weights.
