On 8th December 2023, I woke up in early morning and took bath in my hotel at around 6 am to get ready for my visit to one of the most mysterious, splendorous, and majestic temple architectures of India, Konark Sun Temple, which is one of the UNESCO's world heritage sights.
The Konark Sun Temple simply depicts an unparalleled craftsmanship that was built during the reign of King Narasimhadeva I in the 13th century. This marvelous temple was built in an exquisite artistic style that separates from any other temples in the world. The Konark Sun Temple is dedicated to Lord Sun (Suryadev) and unlike any other temples, it's resembles a pure scientific masterpiece where one can experience the power of science in every corner of its mammoth structure. The Konark Sun Temple resembles a chariot comprising of 24 wheels driven by seven horses. According to science, these 12 pair of wheels represent the twelve months of a year. Each wheel has 8 major spokes that represent 24 hours a day. The seven horses represent seven days in a week.
There are several mysterious facts that surrounds the Konark Sun Temple. One of the most mysterious facts about the temple was the floating idol of Lord Sun. Earlier, the main idol of Lord Sun inside the temple, was said to be floating in the midst of the air. This mysterious fact of an idol being floating in the midst of the air was said to have been possible due to a gigantic natural magnet that was inscribed inside the temple. This natural magnet was so powerful that even the idol was floating in the air. Also, according to some historians, the temple was originally very near to the sea shore, due to which, the power natural magnet that was inscribed inside the temple, used to cause deflections to the compass of the ships' directions. Also, the temple was constructed in such a majestic architectural work, that, the first ray of the sun always falls directly on the main entrance having the idol of Lord Sun (Suryadev).
The Konark Sun Temple is totally made of stones and the carvings on its walls depicts various images of God, Goddess, dancing women in various poses, singers with playing instruments, love sights, and facts about the Hindu mythologies, Ramayana, and Mahabharat. It's a real fortune to watch such brilliant masterpiece of work in the ancient period. This also tells us how people were far more advanced in technical aspects, than the current scenario. On the very first entrance of the temple, you will see two gigantic lions sitting on both side and both of the lions are carved out of stones with marvelous artistic works. There are some steps to be walked up in between the two lions, followed by the main entrance of the temple architecture. However the steps are a bit high and you need to carefully walk through the steps.
Konark Sun Temple is just 35 kilometers away from Puri and it took nearly 1:30 hours for us to reach Konark by our private car, that included 30 minutes time for our lunch in between.
